THE DIFFERENCE

The Difference is a collaborative site-specific exhibition: the artists work together, blending their individualities with those of others, and collectively engage with the space to be set up (…). The theme is the liberation of the subject from clichés and mass-media stereotypes, from massified behaviors, and it serves as a critique of cultural and trendy conformisms, raising thought-provoking questions.
The central core from which the entire project unfolds is the video A Hole Can Make A Difference by Roberta Cavallari and Caterina Curzola; the authors state: “A hole is a wound, an opening, a hole is what allows the flow of what has been held back, censored, concealed. A head wrapped in cloth, covering the senses and censoring the most powerful openings: eyes, mouth, ears. It is precisely the senses, blocked and hidden, that hold the words, which constitute the possibilities for a person to communicate”. The action, then, enacts the liberating gesture that tears apart the constraints and impositions that suppress subjectivity, the person in their physicality. The veil denies the somatic traits, hides them, neutralizes them in the normative and bureaucratic anonymity of convention. The performer tears the veil, tears the convention, contradicts the norm and its bureaucratic implementation (…). As the new identity is liberated, triangles of light burst from the hole-wound, pouring forcefully into the air, filling it with new energy.

The Difference è una mostra collaborativa site specific: gli artisti lavorano insieme, giocando le proprie specificità con quelle degli altri e tutti insieme si confrontano con lo spazio da allestire (…). Il tema è la liberazione del soggetto dai cliché e dagli stereotipi mass mediatici, dai comportamenti massificati, e si pone come critica dei conformismi culturali e di tendenza, ponendo questioni interessanti.
Nucleo centrale da cui si dipana l’intero progetto è il video A Hole Can Make A Difference di Roberta Cavallari e Caterina Curzola; di esso le autrici affermano: “Un buco è una ferita, è un’apertura, un buco è ciò che fa passare dentro e fuori i flussi trattenuti, censurati, celati. Una testa vestita di una tela, che copre i sensi e censura le aperture più potenti: occhi, bocca, orecchie.
Proprio i sensi, tappati e nascosti, trattengono le parole che costituiscono le possibilità della persona di comunicare”. L’azione, dunque, inscena il gesto liberatorio che lacera le costrizioni, le imposizioni che reprimono la soggettività, la persona nella sua fisicità. Il velo nega i tratti somatici, li nasconde, li neutralizza nell’anonimato normativo e burocratico della convenzione. La performer lacera il velo, lacera la convenzione, contraddice la norma e la sua attuazione burocratica (…). Non appena liberata la nuova identità, triangoli di luce scaturiscono dal buco-ferita, zampillano impetuosi nell’aria, la riempiono di energia nuova.
