At the Booming Art Show, Roberta Cavallari presented two paintings that are part of the series dedicated to interiors. Thinking about dwelling, and consequently about habitation, is a practice—a process that encodes the experience of human life. In the Western world, every human being, by nature, tends to nest, creating homes that embrace private life. Domestic spaces – intimate, private – reflect the interiority of those who inhabit them and serve as a calling card through which we open ourselves to others. In Roberta Cavallari’s artistic practice, there is a certain metaphysics of domesticity: silent interiors, glimpses of everyday life emerging against almost motionless backgrounds, fragments of frozen existence, and objects devoid of subjects. Despite the fact that the spaces depicted by the artist evoke a profoundly human experience, there is no corporeal trace of the human figure in her paintings, transforming them into narratives of absence rather than portraits of intimacy.

Pensare l’abitare, e conseguenzialmente l’abitazione, è una prassi, un processo che codifica l’esperienza di vita umana. Nel mondo occidentale ogni essere umano, per sua natura, tende a nidificare, creando dimore che accolgono la vita privata. I luoghi domestici, intimi, privati, riflettono l’interiorità di chi li abita e si configurano come il biglietto da visita tramite cui ci apriamo agli altri. C’è, nella pratica artistica di Roberta Cavallari, una certa metafisica della domesticità: interni silenziosi, squarci di vita quotidiana che si stagliano su campiture quasi immobili, frammenti di vita congelata e oggetti senza soggetti. Nonostante gli spazi raffigurati dall’artista rimandino a un’esperienza prettamente umana, dell’umano non c’è traccia corporea nei suoi dipinti, divenendo il racconto di un’assenza più che ritratti dell’intimità.
